This pale triple strong “Triple“ Trappist Ale brings layered rich depths with elusive hints of citrus and spice accents. A deep gold colour with amber highlights, it brings excellent complexity yet a fairly light body for a beer of the strength.
The most recent of Rochefort’s offerings and the first new beer since 1955, the Triple Extra was rude to commemorate the “Forte Biére Blonde Extra” which the abbey brewed from 1920 to 1923, long before the Brewery was commercial. Available from 2020 in Belgium it underwent a wider release in 2022. Should be served between 7°-8°C.
Should be served with bold cheeses and charcuterie either before or after dinner. Served with main course of roast duck or gamey dishes. Pairs well with black trumpet mushrooms, truffle dishes or artichokes.
Around the year 1230 the count of Rochefort founded hey Cistercian nunnery called Secours de Notre-Dame. Since then the monastery has been repeatedly destroyed by various Protestant armies. in 1595 the first Brewery was established, however, this did not stop the abbey from falling into ruin during the catastrophes of the 17th century. during the French revolutionary period the abbey was completely destroyed in around the year 1805 when it became a farm. The monks of Achel, another famous Trappist monastery which recently stopped producing Trappist beer, bought the farm with the abbey ruins in 1887 restoring them to their original use and raising new buildings. Although a new Brewery was soon established it would not be until 1952 that it would produce enough beer for it to go on sale. With 400 years of experience brewing, Rochefort Trappist beers are considered to be among the best Belgian beers in the world.
