Lux Amoris
Rouge 2017

The hand-harvested grapes undergo strict sorting before de-stemming and pressing. 25 days of maceration then lead to a fermentation in concrete tanks. As fermentation begins, the winemakers follow the 'rack and return' method to extract colour and flavour with light stirring to avoid the formation of hard tannins. Aged for 18 months, partially in new oak barrels, it was blended and bottled. All the Via Caritatis wines are overseen by the acclaimed oenologist Philippe Cambie.

2017 was a difficult year for the Southern Rhône, with frost impacting yields across the region. Spring was very mild which caused a rapid bud-burst. At the end of April temperatures dropped rapidly, which caused frosts across the Southern Rhône Valley. Luckily, weather conditions during summer improved, with sunny days and cool nights allowing the grapes to ripen slowly, while maintaining good levels of acidity. Harvest at Via Caritatis began on 1st October and lasted until the 14th October.
